I’m all braced up.
I’m all ready.
I’m all prepared for my beloved hikki’s brand new 2008 release!
Soon I’ll be able to lay my hands on
Utada Hikaru’s
Heart Station (album and single)! I’m going to get both discs together on the album’s release day even though the single is already out. The tracks that I already have (through the purchase of the pre-release singles) are all outstanding (other than the bear song). Beautiful World, Flavour of Life and Heart Station boast of excellent arrangements and compositions. Hikki’s managed to follow through the style of the previous album and make some real good contemporary j-pop music. Now that’s talent, take that ayumi. Beautiful World also ties in with Eva perfectly!
That aside, yesterday was probably one of those life-changing days that I have, when I make big decisions that could affect my life’s turnout. Went to
law openhouse with rosel in the afternoon and I have to say law is really inspiring. After the short walkthrough and talk by the dean (whom I remember to be an old boy of sji!), I think I’m going to apply for law as my top choice for nus application. It might occur to most why I have this random decision to take up law even though I don’t intend to be an attorney in the future. Well I think I’m most primarily drawn by the career prospect that follows a law degree. Yeah fass is probably where the arts junkie like me belong but I don’t want that. There’s really nothing in fass that truly appeals to me. a law degree will be powerful in the sense that I could probably just walk straight into sji and get a job… easily. that will allow me to fulfill my dreams with much more ease.
But all that talk, it’s just my part of the story. The ultimate decision is up to the school of course. Chances of me not getting into nus law is like 99.999%. it’s one of the hardest faculty to get into, secondary only to medicine. Even though I have 3As in my h2s, the b in gp probably doesn’t impress them. With all the people getting distinction in gp and ki and the bitches from ib, goodness that just slashed my chances by a lot. Oh and not to mention I failed h1 maths. Which is my freaking h1 contrasting. Entrance to anywhere will be difficult. They’ll probably laugh and say this person can’t even do logic (maths), how does he expect to read law. So yeah my chance of getting it isn’t high.
SO… BECAUSE OF THAT I HAVE A FULL BACKUP:
plan a: If I get into law, I will read law and relinquish any dreams of studying art in csm for the next few many years.
plan b: If I don’t get into law, depending on situations, I will apply for and perhaps reapply law next year.
plan c: If I don’t get into both because I just suck, I will just settle for some booz which is nus fass and ntu arts.
Well I think it’s all destined, if I suck, no matter how many times I apply I won’t get it, so I’ll just settle for my backups.
Oh and I don’t intend to apply for ntu adm anymore. What’s the point of getting there when what I really want is a TOP class art degree?
But heaven forbid for all colleges to reject me, I did freaking well for my standards please. LOL.
Yes, that’s my future laid out before my eyes. After law openhouse, i went to meet andrew and yonglin at cine. Goodness cabbing is probably one of the worst ways of getting anywhere now. It jumps by twenty freaking cents instead of ten. Urgh. Anyway we did bad stuff at xinwang café wahahahahahaha!

After dinner we went to catch
Evangelion:1.0 You Are (Not) Alone. I have to say THANK GOD, no more retarded movies. Evangelion is basically an apocalyptic anime based on the Neon Genesis Evangelion series a few years ago when I was still super young. What sparked me to watch this movie was my memory of this series. It was something very complicated back when I was young so I intend to like decipher it more now that I’m much more grown up. I suppose the animation have many layers to it after doing some rather brief readings. The most superficial purpose of the anime is just to showcase an era when robots and monsters exist. That’s probably what most people see. After some reading up a lil on it, I think the entire anime is more sophisticated than that. It is built upon the exploration of governance, original sin and guilt. For one, the government does not reveal the existence of such battles to the people. ‘Blackouts’ warnings are issued before it happens, where the energy goes to isn’t revealed to the people. Hardly anyone understands the purpose of all these measures. Transparency in governance is evidently absent, but all that to perhaps protect its people. Shinji is also a very interesting character dealing with a lot of internal struggles. The guilt and unhappiness that he undergoes brings to point a very fragile human environment. Faith in relationships dwindle, growth becomes a painful instead of natural process. people are now reserved and very often trapped in facades (misato, rei). One major irony in the anime is the idea of angels. Angels commonly perceived as messengers of god, are now sent to bring forth apocalypse. The very act of this contradicts what angels are supposed to be. There are also a lot of allusions to Christian fables, such as the slogan of NERV, angels no doubt, etc. having read up on the identity of each angel, I have to say the anime pay very close attention to some ideas in the bible such as life and knowledge. This ‘review’ seem rather vague and ambiguous, pardon me. but I need to know more about the evangelion series to write more. :D never mind, this is the first of four movies. More to come!
8/10.

After eva, andrew and I went to watch
Vantage Point, chosen by andrew. I cannot believe I almost miss this movie just because it’s an action thriller. This is probably one of the best movies I’ve seen this year. the movie centers around events leading to and after the assassination of us president in his visit to Europe for the summit against terrorism. The story is told from the viewpoints of many people; media, guards, tourists, victims, politicians and terrorists. The truth of the assassination is uncovered through eight different narrations. The technique used is 罗生门 (:O). what appear to be the truth is slowly revoked as more sides of the same event is uncovered. It renders the movie a gripping quality that really excites the mind. Each character is thus given an increased emotional dimension on their experience through the bombings. Themes: heroism and the triumph of good. The story is told in a really skilful manner.
9/10, everyone should watch this. But please don’t waste your time if you think you won’t be able to understand the movie and eventually pass it off as a lousy thriller. ROXOR - lazy to write more!
Okay enough, time for pokemon!
